Hazardous Waste Regulations
On the 16th July 2005 new Hazardous Waste
Regulations came into force.
Q. I am not
sure if we produce hazardous waste
A.
In the past, most companies did not produce
hazardous waste. However on the 15th July 2005
numerous items previously not classed as
hazardous waste are to be reclassified. The two
main ones are CRT monitors and lead acid
batteries.
Q. Do you need to register
A. If you dispose of 200kgs or more
of hazardous waste per year then you will need
to register with the Environment Agency. This is
about 15 monitors.
Q. What happens if I do not register?
A. Without a registration number from
the Environment Agency your computer recycler
will not be allowed to collect any computer
monitors. If they do then both you and the
recycler can be fined
Q. What waste do Secure I.T Disposals
handle?
A. We are licensed to process any
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment -
WEEE.
note: We do not handle
waste oil, clinical waste, chemicals, paints,
etc
Q. What does it cost?
A. The Environment Agency charge us
£18.00.
